A well-insulated PEB cuts internal temperatures by 8-12°C in summer. Here's how to design it right.
Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) are popular for their speed and cost — but uninsulated PEBs become ovens in summer and freezers in winter. Internal temperatures in an uninsulated PEB can run 8-12°C hotter than outside ambient.
Roof insulation matters most. The roof receives direct solar load all day. Glass wool with foil facing under purlins is the standard system — fast to install during erection, effective long-term.
Wall insulation between Z-girts comes next. The same glass wool or rockwool system, with vapor-barrier facing on the inside, dramatically improves comfort and HVAC efficiency.
Don't forget the eaves. Air gaps at eaves and ridge are the most common defect, allowing hot air to bypass the insulation entirely. Seal these properly with insulation strips or backer rods.
Acoustic benefit is the bonus — properly insulated PEBs eliminate the drum-like roof noise during rain. Worker complaints drop, productivity rises, and the system pays for itself within 18-24 months on HVAC savings alone.
